MISSIE : De missie van Gay & Sober is simpel: een veilige, leuke en verrijkende ervaring bieden aan de nuchtere LGBTQ-gemeenschap. Ons primaire doel is om eenheid aan te moedigen en iemands nuchterheid te vergroten.
VISIE : In de geest van eenheid komen we samen om elkaar te steunen en lief te hebben en om anderen - vooral beginners - te laten zien dat het inderdaad mogelijk is om gelukkig, vreugdevol en vrij te zijn in nuchterheid. Een keer per jaar houden we een speciaal evenement in New York City gewijd aan het vieren van herstel van alcoholisme en drugsverslaving. Gedurende drie speciale dagen worden honderden fellows samengebracht voor een weekend vol innovatieve gezondheids- en wellnessworkshops, grote sprekersbijeenkomsten, spirituele groei en topentertainment. We sponsoren ook een viering van de Pride Day voor alle LGBTQ-mensen die een veilige ruimte bieden om te marcheren in de parade en een avonddans op de Hudson River - compleet met vuurwerk!
Onze conferentiedeelnemers vertegenwoordigen meerdere 12-stappenprogramma's en komen uit alle hoeken van de wereld. Voor degenen onder u die bekend zijn met de ervaring van de voormalige Hot N Dry of van een YPAA-evenement, u zult genieten van de energie die we bieden!

HERKOMST : Wat begon als een privégroep op Facebook genaamd Gay & Sober Men in de zomer van 2009, is Gay & Sober uitgegroeid tot wat nu de grootste herstelgroep in zijn soort op sociale media is. Gay & Sober is uitgebreid met nachtelijke onlinevergaderingen, maandelijkse gratis LGBTQ-gemeenschapsprogrammering, een conferentie en een officieel onderdeel in nationale trotsfestiviteiten. Gay & Sober, de overkoepelende non-profitorganisatie die de conferentie beheert en overziet, houdt regelmatig vergaderingen van de AA en maakt deel uit van de fellowship - maar we verwelkomen en omarmen leden en vrienden van alle fellowships - inclusief de fellowships van Narcotics Anonymous, Crystal Meth Anonymous en AL-Anon. **

In juni 2011 organiseerde een non-profitorganisatie met de naam Queer & Sober een driedaags fellowship-evenement op Pride Weekend in New York - inclusief een cruise op Pride Sunday. Onder leiding van Christian P., Keith B., David C. en Jackson S. opereerde Queer & Sober van 2011 tot 2013. In juli 2013 sloot Queer & Sober af, maar de traditie van iets geweldigs op Pride Weekend was in volle vaart. In oktober 2014 kondigde het mannenevenement Hot 'n Dry in Palm Springs aan dat het zijn afscheidsconventie in september 2015 zou houden. Als admin van de Facebook-groep zag Christian een unieke kans om een nieuw, opnieuw bedacht avontuur te lanceren. In juni 2015 stemden de leden van de Gay & Sober Men's Facebook-groep bijna unaniem om elkaar persoonlijk te ontmoeten op de allereerste conferentie. Waar en wanneer was de volgende grote vraag. Bestemmingssteden als Philadelphia, Washington DC en New York kwamen meteen in me op. In januari 2016 stemde de groep en kondigde aan dat het de conferentie in New York City zou houden en dat het zou samenvallen met Pride Weekend. In maart 2016 kondigde Jerry X. van de Big Apple Roundup op Facebook aan dat de Big Apple Roundup na 30 jaar Thanksgiving-weekend zou verhuizen van Thanksgiving-weekend naar Pride Weekend.
* De grote jaarlijkse bijeenkomst op de Gay & Sober Men's Conference wordt erkend door de Association of Gays & Lesbians in Anonieme Alcoholisten ( GaL-AA.org ). Gay & Sober Inc. is een belastingvrije 501c3 New York State non-profitorganisatie. Alle schenkingen en bijdragen zijn fiscaal aftrekbaar. In de geest van samenwerking doneren en steunen Gay & Sober AA-, AL-ANON- en CMA-bijeenkomsten respectievelijk AA, AL-ANON en CMA. Bij elke grote avondconferentie wordt een aparte 7th Tradition-collectie verzameld en rechtstreeks naar AA of CMA gestuurd. Er zijn geen betaalde functies bij Gay & Sober Inc. Gay & Sober Inc. is niet gelieerd aan de Big Apple Roundup Inc. Gay & Sober Inc. en Big Apple Roundup Inc. zijn beide autonome en afzonderlijke bedrijfsentiteiten. Zoals beschreven in de lange vorm van AA's 3e Traditie, en net als bijeenkomsten bij andere Roundups, verklaart en beschouwt de belangrijkste AA-bijeenkomst op de GSM-conferentie zich bewust als een AA-groep. Als zodanig levert de AA-bijeenkomst op de Gay & Sober-conferentie jaarlijks speciale bijdragen om het werk van Anonieme Alcoholisten te ondersteunen. Big Apple Roundup wordt door AA vermeld als het houden van tweewekelijkse vergaderingen op 208 W 13th St op de eerste donderdag en de derde zondag van elke maand. Vragen over de Big Apple Roundup kunnen aan deze bijeenkomsten worden gesteld. Het General Service Office van Anonieme Alcoholisten heeft Gay & Sober laten weten dat zij niet de bevoegdheid hebben om jaarlijkse conferentievergaderingen, groepen of razzia's te erkennen . Een directory-listing impliceert geen goedkeuring of goedkeuring van de benadering of praktijk van een groep van het traditionele AA-programma.
In June of 2011, a nonprofit company titled Queer & Sober conducted a three day fellowship event on Pride Weekend in New York - including a cruise on Pride Sunday. Under the direction of Christian P., Keith B., David C., and Jackson S., Queer & Sober operated from 2011 through 2013. In July of 2013, Queer & Sober closed, but the tradition of something wonderful on Pride Weekend was in full swing. In October of 2014, the men's event Hot 'n Dry in Palm Springs announced that it would hold it's farewell convention in September of 2015. Christian being an admin of the of the Facebook group saw a unique opportunity to launch a new, reimagined adventure. In June of 2015, the members of Gay & Sober Men's Facebook group voted almost unanimously to meet face to face at it's very first conference. Where and when was the next big question. Destination cities like Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York immediately came to mind. In January of 2016, the group voted and announced that it would hold the conference in New York City and it would coincide with Pride Weekend. In March of 2016, Jerry X. from the Big Apple Roundup announced on Facebook that after 30 years on Thanksgiving Weekend, the Big Apple Roundup would be moving from Thanksgiving weekend to Pride Weekend.
*The big annual meeting at the Gay & Sober Men's Conference is recognized by the Association of Gays & Lesbians in Alcoholics Anonymous (GaL-AA.org). Gay & Sober Inc. is a tax exempt 501c3 New York State nonprofit. All donations and contributions are tax deductible. In the spirit of cooperation, Gay & Sober sponsored AA, AL-ANON, and CMA meetings donate and support AA, AL-ANON, and CMA, respectively. A separate 7th Tradition collection is taken at each big nightly conference meeting and sent directly to AA or CMA. There are no paid positions at Gay & Sober Inc. As such, the AA meeting at the Gay & Sober Conference makes Special Contributions annually to support the work of Alcoholics Anonymous. Big Apple Roundup is listed by AA as holding bi-weekly meetings at 208 W 13th St on the 1st Thursday and 3rd Sunday of every month. Questions concerning the Big Apple Roundup can be addressed to these meetings. The General Service Office of Alcoholics Anonymous has informed Gay & Sober that they do not have the authority to recognize any annual conference meetings, groups or roundups. A directory listing does not imply approval or endorsement of any group’s approach to or practice of the traditional AA program. The last Big Apple Roundup event was in June of 2019. It has since dissolved
